Deskripsi:

Tomb of Prince Purbonegoro is located in Malokok Hill, Sawah Mulya village, Sangkapura Sub-district, Bawean-Gresik. Prince Purbonegoro was the 5th descendant of Sheikh Maulana umar Mas’ud or Prince Perigi. Prince Purbonegoro was not only well known as kindhearted and wise leader but also diligent and devoted in worshiping God. Once upon a time, he used to wake up toward the down (Shubuh) because of his day-to-day tiring activities about kingdom and Islamic preaching. It caused his delays of Tahajjud pray. Therefore, he commanded the guard of Sangkapura Great Mosque to strike Bedug; a large percussion or drum in a mosque used to give signal of praying time, at 00,00 AM, so that he could wake up and did Tahajjud in its time. That bedug then well known as Gendeng Debe’. But during the Japanese expansion era until now that gendeng debe’ never been heard anymore.

In the period of Prince Purbonegoro government (1720-1747 M), Bawean was a free or independent government that never been allied under the colonial government, but it affiliated directly to Surakarta Kingdom.
